Participation and involvement are our main considerations and each year children from The Bridge School have the opportunity to experience a wide variety of activities from swimming, athletics and dance to gymnastics, orienteering and boccia. All these are differentiated appropriately for pupils with more complex or physical difficulties.
Whether striving for excellence, maintaining fitness or merely enjoying participation, all children can benefit from sport and Physical Education. Carefully chosen or specially adapted sporting activities help our pupils develop important educational and social skills and can provide a lifelong source of interest and enjoyment whilst also supporting mental health and wellbeing as well as physical health.
The school has a swimming/hydrotherapy pool and a multipurpose hall with a wide variety of PE and games equipment. There is a school field, with trim trail, and several outside playgrounds and play areas suitable for accessible sports and games.
Classes are encouraged to take part in their own version of ‘the daily mile’ for fitness in addition to PE lessons. Every year, teams of our children also compete with other local special schools e.g. boccia and football competitions.
